CVS to close 900 stores by end of next year as pharmacy chains battle rampant retail theft

The former Manhattan college professor who threatened to “chop” up a Post reporter while holding a machete to his neck appears to have secured a new teaching gig.
Shellyne Rodriguez is listed as an adjunct instructor at the Cooper Union in the East Village and appears on the fall semester schedule as teaching a sculpture class.
A spokesperson for Cooper Union did not immediately respond when asked to confirm Rodriguez’s employment status.
Rodriguez was fired from her roles as a professor at both Hunter College and the School of Visual Arts after she was caught threatening and then chasing a veteran Post reporter with a machete on May 23.
She was charged with harassment and menacing following the violent encounter which began when the scribe and a photographer knocked on the door of her Bronx apartment to get comment on a viral video featuring the professor.
The convicted felon suspected of murdering tech CEO Pava LaPere in her Baltimore apartment was arrested Wednesday night, according to authorities and a report.
Jason Billingsley, 32, who was considered highly dangerous while on the run, was nabbed just after 11:10 p.m. in Bowie, Maryland, after two days on the lam, according to a since-deleted tweet by the US Marshals Service in Baltimore.
Sources also confirmed to local station Fox 45 News that investigators tracked the fugitive to the MARC train station on Laurel-Bowie Road, where they arrested him without incident.
Billingsley was named the sole suspect in the murder of LaPere, who was reported missing Monday and later found dead with blunt-force trauma to her head.
The 26-year-old founder of EcoMap Technologies, who was named on this year’s Forbes 30 under 30 list for social impact, was discovered badly beaten and partially clothed on the rooftop of her upscale Baltimore apartment building.
Billingsley is still on parole for a violent rape and assault of a 25-year-old woman in 2013.
Police warned the public to beware of the alleged killer — who is also a suspect in a horrific attack on a man and woman about a week before LaPere was found dead.
Billingsley is being eyed as the man who broke into the man and woman’s house, where he handcuffed and duct-taped them at gunpoint and then allegedly raped the woman before slashing her neck.
He then allegedly doused them in liquid and set them on fire, nearly killing them. A 5-year-old child who was in the home also suffered smoke inhalation.
“This individual will kill and he will rape. He will do anything he can to cause harm,” acting Police Commissioner Richard Worley cautioned.
On Tuesday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed several gun control measures into law, one of which restricts where gun owners can carry their firearms.
According to the Los Angeles Times, one of the laws Newsom signed, S.B. 2, came in response to the Supreme Court’s New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn. vs. Bruen ruling last year, which struck down a gun control law in New York. The new law “seriously limits who can obtain a license to carry a concealed firearm” and details more than two dozen “sensitive” locations where guns cannot be carried. This includes child care centers, public transit, museums, zoos, medical facilities, among many others.
“While radical judges continue to strip away our ability to keep people safe, California will keep fighting — because gun safety laws work,” Newsom said in a statement. “The data proves they save lives: California’s gun death rate is 43% lower than the rest of the nation. These new laws will make our communities and families safer.”
Earlier this year, Townhall reported how Newsom proposed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to implement sweeping gun control measures that would impact all Americans. This would include restrictions on modern sporting rifles, such as AR-15s, AK-47s and M-16s, dubbed by pro-gun control liberals as "assault weapons."
In a press release, Newsom claimed that his proposed amendment “guarantees common sense constitutional protections and gun safety measures that Democrats, Republicans, independent voters, and gun owners overwhelmingly support – including universal background checks, raising the firearm purchase age to 21, instituting a firearm purchase waiting period, and barring the civilian purchase of "assault weapons.” He claimed that his amendment would leave the Second Amendment "intact."

A New York judge’s Tuesday ruling valuing Donald Trump’s sprawling, headline-making Florida estate at $18 million has left industry experts perplexed.
In his verdict, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron delivered a bombshell ruling that the former president committed fraud by inflating the value of his wealth, with details including the monetary value associated with Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach.
This decision, which came down without a jury, has sent shockwaves through political — and real estate — circles, especially that $18 million base value for the property.
One prominent Palm Beach real estate broker, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told The Post, “It’s utterly delusional to think that property is only worth $18 million.”
The insider added, “If that property were on the market today, I would list it at around $300 million, minimum … at least. He also has the separate golf course minutes away.”
Engoron’s verdict holds Trump, 77, along with his family and his business empire, the Trump Organization, liable for fraud — a central allegation in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit against the defendants.
In a 35-page judgment, Engoron sided with James, asserting that Trump had made unequivocally false statements in official documents to secure favorable terms with financial institutions.
Notably, Trump’s claims, such as his triplex penthouse in Trump Tower being 30,000 square feet when it was closer to 11,000, were also described by Engoron as “fraudulent” given their significant discrepancies. Though, Trump’s defense argued: “the calculation of square footage is a subjective process that could lead to differing results or opinion based on the method employed to conduct calculation.”
However, the ruling raised eyebrows when Engoron, a Democrat who ran unopposed in the general election on Nov. 3, 2015, evaluated the worth of Trump’s prized Mar-a-Lago Club resort at $18 million, ruling that the property was inflated by 2,300%.
He cited a basic Palm Beach Assessor valuation that ranged from $18 million to $28 million between 2011 and 2021, with industry sources saying it fails to take into consideration the fair market value. This valuation is far from Trump’s 1985 purchase price of $10 million, $8 million less than what the judge declared it was worth today.

To put it in perspective, a 2-acre wooded lot at 1980 S. Ocean Blvd., just 5 minutes from Mar-a-Lago, is currently listed for $150 million. Mar-a-Lago, situated at 1100 S. Ocean Blvd., dwarfs this lot tenfold and operates as a commercial business with around 500 members as part of the golf club.
The company announced plans in 2021 to shutter hundreds of its stores over a three-year period in order to reduce store count density in some areas and adjust to the online market by converting its stores into health care destinations that offer shots and testing.
