The CCP hates Israel

https://www.algemeiner.com/2025/12/11/china-expresses-outrage-senior-taiwanese-officials-reported-trip-israel/

China has strongly condemned a senior Taiwanese official’s reported secret trip to Israel, describing the issue of Taiwan as a “red line” for the Chinese government and warning the Jewish state not to send “wrong signals” to those pushing for the island’s independence.

The Reuters news agency reported on Thursday that Taiwan’s high-profile Deputy Foreign Minister Francois Wu made a recent, previously unpublicized visit to Israel, citing three sources familiar with the trip.

China considers Taiwan, a nearby island run by a democratic government, as a renegade Chinese province that must be reunited with the mainland — by force, if necessary. Due to pressure from Beijing, few countries have formal diplomatic ties with Taiwan. Israel only recognizes Beijing but not Taipei, which has been increasingly looking to Israel for defense cooperation.

Taiwanese diplomats travel abroad, but trips to countries such as Israel are rare.

The anonymous sources told Reuters that Wu had visited Israel in recent weeks. Two of the sources said the trip happened this month.

China responded with outrage to the reported trip.

“The one-China principle is the consensus of the international community and a basic norm of international relations,” China’s embassy in Israel said in a statement. “It is also the prerequisite and foundation for establishing and developing diplomatic ties between China and countries around the world, including Israel.”

The embassy then invoked the China-Israel Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations, which states that Israel recognizes that the Chinese government “is the sole legal government representing the whole of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People’s Republic of China.”

Describing the issue of Taiwan as a “red line,” the embassy said it “firmly objects” to Israel’s reported contact with Taiwanese officials.

“The Taiwan question concerns China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and constitutes an inviolable red line at the very core of China’s core interests,” the statement continued. “The Chinese side firmly objects to any form of official exchanges with the Taiwan authorities, which seriously violate the one-China principle. We once again urge the Israeli side to faithfully abide by the one-China principle, correct the erroneous actions, and stop sending any wrong signals to separatist forces advocating Taiwan independence, so as to uphold the overall interests of China-Israel relations through concrete actions.”

Taiwan’s foreign ministry has declined to comment on whether Wu visited Israel.

“Taiwan and Israel share the values of freedom and democracy, and will continue to pragmatically promote mutually beneficial exchanges and cooperation” in areas such as trade, technology and culture and welcome more “mutually beneficial forms of cooperation,” it said in a statement.

Israel‘s foreign ministry has similarly not commented on the matter.

An Israeli official told Israel Hayom that the visit took place but downplayed its importance. The official reportedly said that Wu met with two members of Israel’s parliament, known as the Knesset, from the Opposition and the Coalition. However, Israel’s Foreign Ministry boycotted the visit as part of its policy of non-confrontation with Beijing on the issue of Taiwan, according to the report.

Still, Taiwan views Israel as an important democratic partner and has been a strong backer of the Jewish state since the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, invasion of and massacre across southern Israel, amid the ensuing war in Gaza.

In October of this year, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te said that Israel is a model for Taiwan to learn from in strengthening its defensesciting the Biblical story of David versus Goliath on the need to stand up to authoritarianism.

“The Taiwanese people often look to the example of the Jewish people when facing challenges to our international standing and threats to our sovereignty from China. The people of Taiwan have never become discouraged,” he said. “Israel’s determination and capacity to defend its territory provides a valuable model for Taiwan. I have always believed that Taiwan needs to channel the spirit of David against Goliath in standing up to authoritarian coercion.”

He made the remarks during a dinner of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in Taiwan.

That same month, Wu met in Taipei with Yinon Aaroni, Director General of Israel‘s Ministry of Welfare and Social Affairs, while in September Taiwan President Lai Ching-te met six Israeli lawmakers at his office.

Taiwan has a de facto embassy in Tel Aviv, while Israel has a similar representative office in Taipei. There is no similar arrangement between Taiwan and the Palestinians, with whom China has a close relationship. China recognized a Palestinian state in 1988. Taiwan has said it does not plan to recognize a Palestinian state.

Lai in October announced a new multi-layered air defense system called “T-Dome” to defend itself against a possible future attack by China. It is partly modeled on Israel‘s air defense system.

Lai told the AIPAC dinner that T-Dome had been inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, as well as US President Donald Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense shield.

“I believe that trilateral Taiwan-US-Israel cooperation can help achieve regional peace, stability, and prosperity,” he said.

The Chinese embassy’s statement chiding Israel this week came days after China slammed the Jewish state earlier this month for recently joining a United Nations declaration condemning Beijing’s human rights record.

Israel had endorsed a US-backed declaration, signed by 15 other countries — including the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan — that expressed “deep and ongoing concerns” over human rights violations in China.

In a rare move, Jerusalem broke with its traditionally cautious approach to China — aimed at preserving diplomatic and economic ties — by signing on to the statement. The signatory countries denounced China’s repression of ethnic and religious minority groups, citing arbitrary detentions, forced labor, mass surveillance, and restrictions on cultural and religious expression.

According to the statement, minority groups — particularly Uyghurs, other Muslim communities, Christians, Tibetans, and Falun Gong practitioners — face targeted repression, including the separation of children from their families, torture, and the destruction of cultural heritage.

In response, China’s Foreign Ministry accused the signatories of “slandering and smearing” the country and interfering in its internal affairs “in serious violation of international law and basic norms of international relations.”

Meanwhile, Beijing continues to strengthen relations with Iran, whose Islamic government openly seeks Israel’s destruction, and to expand its influence in the Middle East.

China, a key diplomatic and economic backer of Tehran, has moved to deepen ties with the regime in recent years, signing a 25-year cooperation agreement, holding joint naval drills, and continuing to purchase Iranian oil despite US sanctions.

China is the largest importer of Iranian oil, with nearly 90 percent of Iran’s crude and condensate exports going to Beijing.

Iran’s growing ties with China come at a time when Tehran faces mounting economic sanctions from Western powers, while Beijing itself is also under US sanctions.

According to some media reports, China may be even helping Iran rebuild its decimated air defenses following the 12-day war with Israel in June.

These diplomatic moves come amid an already tense relationship with China, strained since the start of the war in Gaza. In September, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Beijing, along with Qatar, of funding a “media blockade” against the Jewish state.

At the time, the Chinese embassy in Israel dismissed such accusations, saying they “lack factual basis [and] harm China-Israel relations.”

That same month, however, the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), an Israeli think tank, released a report showing China has increasingly used state media and covert campaigns to spread anti-Israel and antisemitic narratives in the United States.

The report examined how China’s state media portrays Israel and the United States as solely responsible for the war in Gaza, depicting them as destabilizing actors while spreading anti-Israel and antisemitic messages.

“It is evident that China and its proxies play a significant role in the current wave of antisemitism and anti-Israel sentiment in the United States,” Ofir Dayan, a research associate in the Israel-China Policy Center at INSS, wrote in the report.

According to Dayan, China’s dissemination of anti-Israel narratives is not intended to directly harm Israel but rather to undermine the US, while preserving its valuable diplomatic and economic ties with Jerusalem.

“Israel is used as a tool to advance Beijing’s claim that Washington destabilizes both the international system and the regions where it operates,” the report said.

New South Wales premier Chris Minns has praised a bystander who tackled and disarmed an armed man during the attack, saying the intervention had saved lives.

Video circulating on social media shows a man in a white shirt running toward a gunman in a dark shirt holding a rifle in a car park.

The bystander tackles the gunman from behind, wrestles the rifle from his hands, and briefly points it back at him before placing the weapon on the ground.

The footage then shows the gunman stumbling backward toward a nearby bridge, where a second shooter was positioned.

Speaking at a press conference, Minns described the moment as extraordinary.

"It's the most unbelievable scene I've ever seen — a man walking up to a gunman who had fired on the community and single-handedly disarming him, putting his own life at risk to save the lives of countless other people," he said.

"That man is a genuine hero, and I’ve got no doubt that there are many, many people alive tonight as a result of his bravery."

It's Official: Ditching The SATs Was A Big Mistake

BY TYLER DURDEN

Authored by Jonathan Miltimore via The Washington Examiner,

In early 2020, the University of California set the tone for the rest of the country when its regents voted to drop SAT and ACT admissions requirements through 2024. That decision, initially framed as a pandemic necessity, quickly reshaped admissions nationwide. By late 2022, roughly 1,750 schools, or about 80 percent of U.S. universities, had adopted test-optional policies, according to Forbes.

“It’s a sea change in terms of how admissions decisions are being made,” Robert Schaeffer, of the National Center for Fair and Open Testing, told NBC News.

“The pandemic created a natural experiment.”

Luxury Cars, Private Villas And Stacks Of Cash: How Somali Fraudsters Spent Minnesotans' Money

BY TYLER DURDEN
SUNDAY, DEC 14, 2025 - 08:05 AM

Luxury cars. Private villas. First-class flights. And taxpayer money meant to feed hungry kids.

New exhibits from court obtained by CBS News reveal how Somali defendants in one of the largest COVID-era fraud schemes in US history plowed through hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money on lavish lifestyles - including lakefront Minnesota properties, overwater bungalows in the Maldives, a Porsche Macan, stacks of cash, designer jewelry, campaigne-soaked vacations, and overseas wire transfers

This photo of a text exchange, presented in court, shows a box stuffed with cash and a message saying "$270,000 dollars."  Court exhibit

Videos show defendants in the case celebrating poolside at a Madlives luxury resort.

In one text, a defendant bragged: "You are gonna be the richest 25 year old InshaAllah [God willing]."

Exhibits entered into evidence include:

  • A confirmation email for a stay in an overwater villa with a private pool at Radisson Blu Resort Maldives
  • Lakefront property in Minnesota
  • Receipts showing wire transfers to China and East Africa
  • First class tickets to Istanbul and Amsterdam
  • A 2021 Porsche Macan
  • Stacks of cash, texted between defendants

Millions for 'Meals' That Never Existed

At the center of the scandal is a nonprofit-backed food program that prosecutors say was systematically exploited. One defendant alone billed the state for $47 million, claiming to have served 18 million meals at more than 30 locations - while failing to distribute a single meal, according to prosecutors.

Among those sentenced is Abdimajid Mohamed Nur, 24, who used stolen taxpayer funds to finance luxury travel and high-end purchases. At sentencing, U.S. District Judge Nancy E. Brasel issued a sharp rebuke, telling him: “Where others saw a crisis and rushed to help, you saw money and rushed to steal.”

Nur was sentenced to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay nearly $48 million in restitution.

Cash Flows Overseas — and Unanswered Questions

The defendants also wired millions of dollars overseas, including to banks and companies in ChinaEast Africa, and Kenya. Investigators say tracing funds routed through China is especially difficult, calling it an investigative “black hole.”

One defendant, Abdiaziz Shafii Farah, 36, sent more than $1 million to Chinese banks in six separate wire transfers in 2021 and nearly $3 million to Kenyan accounts. In one text message, Farah instructed someone to send money to Mogadishu’s Bakara Market, a location once controlled by al Shabaab.

Farah, who owned a Minnesota restaurant contracted to provide meals under the program, was sentenced last month to 28 years in prison. At sentencing, a judge said his crimes were driven by “pure, unmitigated greed.”

Terror Funding? Officials Say No Evidence... So Far

The scale of the fraud has reignited political scrutiny. House Republicans recently launched a probe into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s handling of the case, while the Treasury Department announced it is reviewing whether stolen funds could have reached extremist organizations - with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealing that investigators are tracking the overseas transfers. That said, CBS News sources tell the outlet that they have yet to uncover evidence that taxpayer money made it to terrorist group al Shabaab.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Sunday that investigators are tracking overseas transfers to determine their ultimate use. But federal investigators told CBS News there is no evidence that taxpayer money was funneled to al Shabaab, and prosecutors have presented no terrorism-related charges.

"There was never any evidence that this money went to fund terrorism nor was there any evidence that was the intent of the 70 people we indicted," said former U.S. Attorney Andy Luger, whose office prosecuted many of the cases.

So far, 61 people have been convicted in the sprawling Minnesota fraud scandal, with more investigations still underway. As investigators continue chasing the money trail, one question still looms: How did so much cash slip through the cracks - and who else knew?

BEAUTY QUEENS IN THE NEWS

Long-time readers may remember that I used to cover the main international beauty pageants, Miss Universe and Miss World. Why? Two reasons: I generally admired the young women who competed in them, and it seemed like almost every time, an interesting news story would emerge from the pageant. Plus, it was fun to post photos of contestants and identify favorites.

So why did I stop? To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, I didn’t leave the pageants, the pageants left me. They became politically correct; they downgraded the swimsuit competition or abandoned it completely; and, worst of all, they started producing terrible web sites with zero content that would make it possible to write an interesting post about the contestants.

But pageants and their contestants continue to make news, of a sort. Thus:

Miss Finland Sarah Dzafce was stripped of her title on Thursday, weeks after competing at the Miss Universe pageant over a racially charged social media post.

Oh my! Racially charged? Sounds awful.

Dzafce, 22, posed for a photo pulling the corners of her eyes with the caption “kiinalaisenkaa syömäs,” which roughly translates to “eating with a Chinese person,” in a social media post from late November.

Chief rabbi: 'We will rebuild with tenacity'

The chief rabbi has said it is hard to “adequately express our pain” after the Bondi Beach attack which targeted a Jewish celebration.

But Sir Ephraim Mirvis said Jewish people will “rebuild with tenacity” after the “unspeakable atrocity”.

In a statement on X, he said: “As we kindle our first Chanukah lights this evening, we hold the victims of the unspeakable atrocity in Sydney in our hearts and in our prayers.

“We mourn the loss of the innocent lives taken so brutally in this act of hatred and terror and we pray for a speedy recovery for all those injured.

“Once again, Jews have been targeted for the crime of gathering together proudly as Jews and it is hard to find the words to adequately express our pain.

“Our traditional Jewish response is clear: In the spirit of the defiant Maccabees, who declared that they would never be cowed nor denied the right to live and worship freely, we are strong and resilient.

“We will rebuild with tenacity, and we will continue to gather together to celebrate the light of our tradition and our values even more openly and proudly.”

'Heroic' bystander who disarmed gunman named

A “heroic” bystander captured on video tackling and disarming an armed man during the deadly attack at Sydney's Bondi Beach has been named.

The man has been named by local media as 43-year-old fruit shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed.

Footage showed him charging at a man in a dark shirt who is holding a rifle. He then tackles the armed man from behind, wrenching the rifle from him with his hands before pointing the gun back at the man.

Chris Minns, the premier of New South Wales state, where Sydney is located, hailed the bystander as "a genuine hero" and said the video was "the most unbelievable scene I've ever seen".

British rabbi among those killed in attack

London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger has been named as one of the victims of the Bondi Beach terrorist attack.

The father-of-five, who was assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi, a Jewish cultural centre, grew up in Temple Fortune, north London, and had family members of Kinloss synagogue in Finchley, according to Jewish News.

The 41-year-old and his wife, Chayala, celebrated the birth of their youngest child, a boy, two months ago.

His first cousin, Brighton-based Rabbi Zalman Lewis, told Jewish News: “How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?

“We can only respond by doing what Eli would have wanted, what he dedicated his life to – doing more mitzvot (good deeds) and to keep spreading positive energy.”

King 'appalled and saddened' by 'most dreadful' attack

The King has said he and the Queen are “appalled and saddened” by the terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in a statement.

Charles paid tribute to police, emergency services and “heroic” members of the public, as he said the “the light at the heart of the Chanukah Festival” will always “triumph over the darkness of such evil”.

“My wife and I are appalled and saddened by the most dreadful antisemitic terrorist attack on Jewish people attending the Chanukah celebration at Bondi Beach,” he wrote.

“Our hearts go out to everyone who has been affected so dreadfully, including the police officers who were injured while protecting members of their community. We commend the police, emergency services and members of the public whose heroic actions no doubt prevented even greater horror and tragedy.

“In times of hurt, Australians always rally together in unity and resolve. I know that the spirit of community and love that shines so brightly in Australia - and the light at the heart of the Chanukah Festival - will always triumph over the darkness of such evil.”
