A homeowners group is threatening to foreclose on the Frisco townhouse of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin because of unpaid dues.

Ray Nagin
Nagin, who came to prominence during his stewardship of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, purchased a 1,711-square-foot townhouse in central Frisco in 2007.
The house was, in large part, to be a place of refuge for him and his family in the event of another Louisiana hurricane, according to New Orleans news reports.
But the Bella Casa Owners Association in Frisco now contends that Nagin owes more than $1,500 in association dues, according to county records. The group, which wields broad authority, has threatened to foreclose on the property unless the mayor pays up by April 7.

Nagin and his wife, Seletha Smith-Nagin, plan to sell the home, according to KTVT-TV (Channel 11), which first reported the story.
In a short e-mail, a spokesman for Nagin in New Orleans called the dispute a "personal matter that does not involve the mayor's mortgage. He expects to have it resolved shortly."
A phone call left with the homeowners group was not immediately returned.
The townhouse, on Grosseto Drive, is assessed at $182,000, county records show.
