Marin supervisors back 'U.S. Department of Peace'
A move to create a federal "Department of Peace" drew support from Marin supervisors this week. They swiftly approved it on a routine consent calendar.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, has introduced legislation creating a U.S. Department of Peace, and supervisors urged California Sens. Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein to sponsor similar legislation in the Senate.
"The proposed federal legislation will assist our local police and sheriff's department by researching and funding practical and already proven alternatives to incarceration and adversarial settings," the board's resolution said.
