Knowing OWS

A Pennsylvania man was hit with the rare charge of unlawful possession of noxious matter after police alleged that he dumped human waste in Lower Manhattan last week.

Police said surveillance video captured two incidents on March 14 in which buckets filled with a mixture of excrement and urine were dumped inside the ATM vestibule of a Chase bank branch at 155 Water Street, as well as a the stairwell of an open-air plaza at the corner of Nassau and Cedar Streets.

A witness provided a license plate number of a van believed to be used by the suspects, police said, and on Friday the van’s owner was arrested after police found the vehicle idling on Wall Street. The owner, Jordan Brooks Amos, a 25-year-old from Philadelphia, was charged with the misdemeanor count of unlawful possession of a noxious matter.

Police said they also found a stun gun the van and that Amos wasn’t licensed to drive. He was additionally charged with criminal possession of a weapon, aggravated unlicensed operation and unlicensed driving.

Police suspect Amos is part of the Occupy Wall Street protests. After several months of inactivity in New York City, protesters returned to Lower Manhattan to mark six months since it began.

Amos’s bail was set at $1,500. It could not be determined Wednesday whether he had posted bail. He will be in court Thursday for arraignment.

Amos’s attorney, David Moore of the Legal Aid Society, could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening.
