Concealed Carry Permit Holder Protects Family After Suspect Opens Fire in Direction of Woman, 1-Year-Old Boy: Police
A 62-year-old man was stopped by a concealed carry permit holder after he drew two handguns and shot at four people — including a 1-year-old boy — during an argument with a woman in a Cincinnati neighborhood on Sunday night, police said.
As Thomas McCary argued with the woman, her brother, identified as Patrick Ewing, approached to make sure everything was OK. That’s when police say McCary pulled out a .38-caliber handgun and squeezed off three shots at the brother.
Ewing, a concealed carry permit holder, drew his firearm and returned fire. McCary was hit once in the leg and retreated into his house.
However, the attacker soon return with an additional firearm and fired more shots towards the woman, her 1-year-old son and another man.
In an effort to draw the shooter’s attention away from his family, Ewing fired several more shots at McCary as cover, which allowed the victims to escape into their home.
Police arrested McCary after the 62-year-old man showed up at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment. He was in jail by early Monday morning, WXIX-TV reported.
