Calif. middle school teacher makes kids sing Islam ‘fight song’

Parents in Orange County are outraged after learning a 7th grade teacher made students sing a song she wrote about spreading Islam in class. 

A social studies teacher at Spring View Middle School wrote and ode to Islam and asked her students to sing it. The song is set to the tune of Rachel Platten’s hit “Fight Song,” but the lyrics were doctored.

The song begins:

“Like a sandstorm in the desert, sending camels into motion, like how a single faith can make a heart open, they might only have one god, but they can make an explosion,” CBS Los Angeles reported.

Other lyrics of the song declares that they “don’t really care if no Jews or [Christians] believe,” and “Islam… Allah’s on the way.”

The song’s chorus touts: “This if their fight song, Spread Islam now song, Prove that they’re right song.”

Parents who found out about the song were outraged.

“I believe that by singing this song, the children feel comfortable believing that maybe Allah is the only god, and maybe that they should start following him,” on parent, Susa Negron told CBS. “And that I’m not okay with.”

The song has also upset Islamic organizations like the Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Anaheim. 

CAIR spokeswoman Ojaala Ahmad said the lyrics “they might only have one god, but they can make an explosion,” were especially troubling. 

“Our reaction was that obviously the teacher could have had a better choice of words, he said, Mediaite reported. 

“Especially with the recent attacks ISIS has been doing, knowing that this potentially Islamaphobic backlash might come about, what was the teacher’s intention,” Ms. Ahmed asked.

The school district released a statement of apology, and says it is looking into the matter.
