New U.S. Army Patch a Dead Ringer for Muslim Brotherhood Logo.

New U.S. Army Patch a Dead Ringer for Muslim Brotherhood Logo

While on Twitter, I saw someone tweet something that I thought must be a joke, or maybe just a hoax. There’s a lot of that going on these days. So, I jumped on Google to check it out and see if there was any truth to it. Well, it appears it wasn’t a hoax.
“Army to issue shoulder patch for ISIL fight,” by Tom Vanden Brook, USA TODAY, September 24, 2015 (thanks to Pamela Geller):
You see the logo on the left above? That’s the logo for the Muslim Brotherhood. The logo on the right is the newly designed U.S. Army patch—specifically, the “Operation Inherent Resolve” patch. Yes, you read that right. The depiction of the palm wreath, three stars and two crossed scimitars is a U.S. Army patch.
A combat patch worn by U.S. soldiers who served in Iraq on the mission against Islamic State is drawing flak from service members and veterans who say the patch — with its palm wreath, stars and crossed scimitars — looks like something the enemy would wear.
The patch isn’t new. Soldiers serving in Operation Inherent Resolve have been sewing it onto their uniforms since April, shortly after the Army authorized it. There is also a medal version for wear on the Army Service Uniform, service spokesman Wayne Hall said on Thursday.
Army Secretary John McHugh approved the patch on March 23 and the service announced it in a message to troops four days later.
It damn well better be receiving some flak!
Via USA Today:
WASHINGTON — Soldiers in Iraq will soon have a new shoulder sleeve patch to signify their service in the fight against the Islamic State.
All told, there are about 3,335 troops in the region training Iraqi troops, providing security and conducing bombing missions on Islamic State targets in Iraq and neighboring Syria.
The Army’s patch features crossed scimitars, a palm wreath and stars. The scimitars, short swords with curved blades, are meant to symbolize the twin goals of the U.S.-led coalition: to defeat the Islamic State, also referred to as ISIL, and to restore stability in the region, according to Army documents.
So, allegedly, according to the USA Today article, the crossed scimitars represent the twin goals of U.S.-led coation, i.e., to defeat ISIS (aka ISIL), and “to restore stability in the region.”
Symbolism is powerful, particularly when it pertains to heraldry and military uniforms. As Robert Spencer wrote at Jihad Watch, “this patch has no resemblance to U.S. Army patches of the past, which featured the American eagle and other recognizably American imagery, not the two swords of the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Damn straight, Robert!
The “Operation Inherent Resolve” patch is practically indistinguishable from the Muslim Brotherhood logo. This is a bold and blatant statement. To Muslims, the crossed scimitars have a huge symbolic significance; they represent historic Islam, and the commitment to jihad.
What the hell?
