BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Vershawn Edwards 17, and Horayshio Fletcher, 17, are being held without bond.
Shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday, police identified that man as 46-year-old James Bennefield.
Cleopatra Hogan lives in the 1500 block of Lomb Avenue. She said she was on the phone when she heard some men arguing around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 19. Shortly afterward, she heard a couple of gunshots.
Hogan didn't call police on Tuesday night or look outside to see what was happening. When she was leaving her house for church on Wednesday morning, she found the body of a white male in her driveway, Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards said.
Hogan said she thinks Bennefield tried to knock on her door for help but didn't make it.
Police said Bennefield had apparently been shot. He did not live at the location or in the area where his body was found, Edwards said.
Lt. Edwards encourages anyone who hears gunshots to report it to police.
