When will the peaceful left denounce the ‘anarchist’ thugs?
Amid the thousands of protesters who took to the streets of Washington on Friday were some intending to violently disrupt President Trump’s inauguration. Will the peaceful majority condemn them?
The “anarchist” thugs left a trail of damage across the nation’s capital — windows broken, rocks and bricks thrown, multiple fires ignited and innocent bystanders, especially Trump supporters, assaulted.
In other incidents, members of Black Lives Matter chained themselves to fences at security checkpoints, forcing the Secret Service to close those areas down.
By midday, nearly 100 rioters had been arrested. Police had to use fire hoses, tear gas and flash-bang grenades to break up the crowds.
This went far beyond a First Amendment “right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
These self-styled anarchists have plagued the left for years now. When will those who insist their intentions are peaceful disavow the agitators whose chief aim is to foment violence? If you make common cause with them, you’re culpable, too.
It’s bad enough that so many on the left have made it clear they will never accept the election results that put Donald Trump in the White House. But when denial turns into outright defiance and violent resistance, that’s something the rest of America will not — and should not — accept.
