Boy snatched off the streets escapes, leads police back to kidnapper
A registered sex offender snatched a 10-year-old boy from a Bronx street Friday and took him to a basement apartment but the child was able to escape and run to police, officials said.
The scary kidnapping unfolded in Kingsbridge at about 8:30 a.m. as the child was walking to school. The 46-year-old man was driving a gray van when he pulled up next to the boy, grabbed him and forced him into the back, police said.
He then drove the boy against his will to a basement apartment on Bailey Avenue.
The child was able to escape and run to the nearby NYPD 50 Precinct Station House less than a half mile away. He picked the offender’s picture out of a photo array and led cops back to the building where he was taken.
The man, whose name hasn’t been released, is in police custody, cops said.
