Fox News has fired Bob Beckel, co-host of the network's primetime program "The Five," for the second time in his career.
"Bob Beckel was terminated today for making an insensitive remark to an African-American employee," Fox News said in a statement, according to Variety.
Beckel's previous termination from the network came while he was recovering from back surgery in 2015.
At the time, Fox News' then-executive vice president of programming, Bill Shine, released a statement suggesting the split did not end on friendly terms.
"We tried to work with Bob for months, but we couldn't hold ‘The Five' hostage to one man's personal issues," Shine said. "He took tremendous advantage of our generosity, empathy, and goodwill, and we simply came to the end of the road with him."
After spending time at CNN, Beckel, a longtime Democratic political consultant, rejoined Fox News and "The Five" in early 2017.
Beckel's termination came one month after Fox News announced it was parting ways with top-rated host Bill O'Reilly amid a flurry of sexual harassment allegations against him. O'Reilly subsequently said his departure from the network stemmed from "completely unfounded claims."
