Trump becomes first sitting US president to visit Western Wall
President Trump visited the Western Wall on Monday, the first stop at the Jewish holy site by a sitting American commander-in-chief.
Trump, accompanied by first lady Melania Trump, daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, walked alone to the wall, where he paused for about a minute with his hand on it.
After a moment, he pulled a slip of paper from his jacket pocket and placed it in a niche in the wall.
It’s customary for visitors to place pieces of paper containing prayers in the wall’s cracks.
Trump landed in Israel earlier Monday on the second leg of his Middle East visit. He met with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and made a stop at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
