Moment colleagues burst into applause to congratulate policeman who gunned down five jihadis while working overtime as it emerges he is a former elite soldier

• The hero officer is part of the Catalan police force the Mossos d'Esquadra
• He was working overtime when five terrorists launched an attack in  Cambrils
• The officer shot dead four of the attackers, probably saving dozens of lives
• The officer, who is not being identified for his own protection, served with the Legion - an elite infantry unit of the Spanish army before joining the police 
• The married officer received extensive firearms training while with the Legion
