A Texas traffic stop turned deadly when a police officer was forced to shoot an armed motorist who appeared to pull a gun on the cop.

What happened?

The harrowing ordeal started off with what likely should have been a simple traffic stop.
According to KTRK-TV, a Pasedena police officer caught the suspect, who was driving a white sedan, running a stop sign.
The suspect reportedly drove an additional six blocks before finally pulling over at the officer’s request.
Assistant Police Chief Josh Bruegger said that the stop went downhill fast when the motorist exited his car and appeared to be combative.
“He gets out of the vehicle, turns partially so he’s facing back towards the officer. At one point his hand reaches down, his right hand behind his back, and then he produces a weapon, brings it up, both hands in a shooting stance parallel to the ground, pointing it at the officer,” Bruegger said, according to KTRK. “The officer immediately starts firing, and strikes the suspect.”

In the video, the suspect can be seen staggering another few steps before he drops out of the frame altogether. Police reportedly found the suspect’s gun on the ground where the body fell.
Witnesses say that they heard the suspect fire at the officer. According to the station, the officer fired at least six shots.
“It’s unfortunate the officer is placed in the position but when a suspect points a weapon at the officer, the officer really has no choice but to defend himself,” Bruegger said.
According to the station, the unnamed officer, a 13-year veteran of Pasadena PD, has been placed on administrative leave pending investigation. The suspect has not been identified.
