Cop Clings To Car Fleeing Accident Scene For A Mile: Police
Police have arrested a driver who, while fleeing an accident scene, struck an off-duty Montgomery County officer who then clung to the car.
ROCKVILLE, MD — An off-duty Montgomery County Police officer clung desperately to the hood of a car driving down I-270 that had struck him after the driver reportedly fled an accident scene on Monday morning, authorities say. Maryland State Police Police arrested and charged the driver shortly after the incident.
Authorities have identified the driver as Denai Holly, 25, of Washington, D.C.
Shortly before 8 a.m., Holly's Chevy Impala collided with another vehicle on southbound I-270 at Shady Grove Road, officials said. Officer Christopher Jordan, who saw the collision, tried using his personal vehicle to stop the fleeing suspect. The off-duty officer got out of his car and identified himself as law enforcement.
Police said Holly failed to stop and, instead, accelerated toward Jordan. Holly struck Jordan and he grabbed the hood of her Chevy Impala. Jordan clung to the car for about a mile, according to authorities. It is unclear how fast Holly was driving.
Before falling off the hood, Jordan was able to give information about the driver to the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack. Jordan was not injured during the incident.Moments later, Maryland and Rockville police located Holly inside her car in the 1400 block of Research Blvd in Rockville. Officials said Holly was taken to the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack to be processed. Her charges are pending.
