Terrifying security video shows a gunman firing at a crowd on a Bronx sidewalk in broad daylight — as a little girl in a blue backpack runs for cover.
The suspect, wearing a navy hoodie, can be seen pulling out his firearm at Gerard Avenue and McClellan Street, clutching it with both hands and aiming it at a group, the footage released by police on Wednesday evening shows.
A young girl in bright pink leggings, who had been walking toward the man, can be seen making a run for it as bullets whiz past her.
Meanwhile, the blasts send the group the suspect appeared to be aiming at rushing across the street.
The gunman, wearing a blue puffer jacket with his sweatshirt hood up, walks a couple steps while brandishing the gun with his right hand, then turns and runs away.
Police say he was targeting a 19-year-old man standing with four other people on the street at 2 p.m. last Friday when he squeezed off three rounds in their direction before fleeing.
No one was hurt but the shooting has left the Concourse neighborhood paralyzed with fear“It never happened, a thing like that, before. People don’t feel safe,” said Francisco Batista, 50, who works at the Colorado Deli on Gerard Avenue, seen in the video.
“People shooting in the street like that? No one is safe.”
A home health aide living nearby said she’s trying to keep her kids inside and out of the line of fire.
“We don’t go out. We don’t go to the park. I keep my kids in the house,” said Gifty Ameawy, 52. “We’re scared.”
One neighbor said the little girl running in the clip was lucky to have escaped.
“She is lucky. Like an angel is watching over her because she was really close,” said Emmanuel Yusuf, 75.
“You’ve got kids going up and down. Someone could get hit with a stray bullet,” he added.
Added JK Torres, 24: “I don’t even know how to react to that. Poor child! She must have been terrified.”
Old-timer Will Madonado, 71, said it “used to be worse here” — but conceded that firing a gun in a crowded street was still “very dangerous.”
Police sources said they have identified a person they believe is the gunman.
But they are still unsure what prompted the shooting.
