London Mayor Sadiq Khan has targeted knives in a crackdown due to a spike in stabbings in the city for two straight months, tweeting "there is never a reason to carry a knife," Fox News reported Sunday.
"No excuses: there is never a reason to carry a knife. Anyone who does will be caught, and they will feel the full force of the law," Khan tweetedSunday.
London has now passed New York City in the number of homicides in 2018. Khan also tweeted, "City Hall and the Met Police are taking action to tackle the scourge of violent crime in London." London and New York City are roughly the same size.
Most of the city's murder victims have been stabbed to death because firearms are tightly restricted in London. Police and community workers point to warring factions within the illegal drug trade for the rising homicide rate, the article explained.
