I was hoping to say another Republcan actor gone amok, but it happens to be a Democrat actor gone amok. Not very practical. Not all bikes need lights. BikeNY, 30000+ bikes, how are they going to give a safety inspection? Imagine hi end, over $5,000 bicycles using a light in a bike race. Oh, and a plate tangling from the rear. Years ago Consumer Product Safety Commission required a bike modification to prevent the wheels separatin from the frame if the quick releace opened. Good idea, but they had to grant an exception to racing bikes, I believe. His idea is good for returning stolen bikes, and other reasons. Hopefully the bill is not as simplisitc as the article states. BTW, why a you for adding one more tax to burden bicycles riders. How can the poor afford another $25 added to the cost of a $100 kids bikes.

Taxes are bad when your ox is in the crosshairs.

A license will make more riders obey the law. It will allow aggrieved pedestrians to identify rogue cyclers.

Racing cars cannot use the streets. Racing bikes used casually should get no exceptions. Racing bikes used during an organized race should be exempted.

Besides we could use the tax money, right?
