Would you expect less from a HuffPo contributor?

Socialite throws soup tantrum

Cops were called to the posh Southampton Inn Monday morning after socialiteMelissa Berkelhammerhad a meltdown that disturbed other guests -- including "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" starKim Granatell, who was in a nearby room.

After Huffington Post contributor Berkelhammer and Granatell attended supermodelJessica White's Angel Wings Foundation event Sunday night at Georgica and returned to the hotel, Berkelhammer could be heard screaming loudly until well after 2 a.m.

Granatell claims she heard Berkelhammer shout, "I deserve to be driven around like royalty!" after she was picked up by a gold BMW despite expecting a vintage car. Another source told us she sounded upset that after Georgica, she arrived too late to a party on Deerfield Road attended byParis Hilton.

Granatell says she also heard Berkelhammer demand that her mother,JoEllen, get her food in the early hours and seemed unsatisfied with what she returned with, ranting, "I want soup that doesn't have lumps in it."

"She ruined my night. I've never heard anything like I heard last night. It went on for hours," a sleep-deprived Granatell said.

Cops were called to the Inn at about 2 a.m. and knocked on Berkelhammer's door. Things quickly calmed and they left without making any arrests.

Berkelhammer, a socialite schooled at Harvard and Princeton, says that aside from attending White's party, the argument and the police coming, "None of this is true." She said she never complained about anyone picking her up or about not being treated like royalty. Berkelhammer says the TV in her room was set too loud, but she couldn't adjust it. But she admits she was upset because she's still mourning the death last year of her psychiatrist father, Edward Berkelhammer.

"I didn't do anything," Berkelhammer told us. "I was crying. For God's sake, people have a right to cry. This particular weekend I was feeling bad about losing him." She denied demanding her mother fetch her soup. Instead, JoEllen went to McDonald's at 6:30 a.m. Monday for Egg McMuffins.

Of Granatell's claims, Berkelhammer said, "This is a trashy press whore looking for attention at my expense."

A hotel rep confirmed police were called, but declined to comment further.
