Democrat culture of corruption

Assemblyman Boyland Jr. vows to promote bills while facing corruption charges

He's not going to let being indicted get in the way of his Albany agenda!

Even as Assemblyman William Boyland Jr. was arraigned in Brooklyn federal court today on wide-ranging corruption charges, he vowed to move quickly next week to promote a series of bills in the legislature and robustly continue to represent constituents in his Brownsville district.

"We're going to be introducing 15 new pieces of legislation - that's the job," Boyland said after his arraignment on bribery and extortion charges.

"My job is to go to Albany to represent [my constituents], which is what I plan to do next Monday," Boyland said.

Back in his district, the Democratic legislator says he has been buoyed by the good will of well-wishers and residents who were not concerned about the corruption allegations he faces.

"The support is there. There's a lot of integrity in that community," Boyland said.

While acknowledging the stress of a federal prosecution, Boyland said he is confident that he will be cleared of the charges.

Boyland and his aide, Ry-ann Hermon, face corruption charges for allegedly soliciting bribes to fast-track real estate developments and help a carnival promoter.
