Troy voter fraud trial starts Tuesday

The alleged voter fraud case that has been ongoing in Troy since 2009, goes to trial Tuesday.Former Democratic City Councilman, Michael LaPorto and former county Elections Commissioner, Edward McDonough are charged with forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

The pair, who will be tried together, is accused of forging absentee ballot applications to try to stuff the ballot box in the 2009 primary for the Working Families Party. Former City Council President, Clement Campagna and Troy City Council member. Gary Galuski have also been indicted. Their trial date has not yet been set.

A total of eight Troy democrats have now been indicted in this investigation. Four others have already entered guilty pleas.Jury selection begins tomorrow at the Rensselaer County Courthouse.
