The IndyCar Detroit Grand Prix has been stopped because of poor track conditions.
A red flag sent drivers to pit row while repairs were made that officials said they hoped would allow the race to restart.
Scott Dixon was leading the race midway through the scheduled 90 laps, and IndyCar points leader Will Power was second.
Chunks of asphalt and concrete came lose on the Belle Isle track that hadn't hosted a race since 2008. Potholes and grooves that were recently filled with tar became exposed.
