Jill Abramson to teach at Harvard

Former New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson will teach a narrative nonfiction course at Harvard University this fall, the school announced Thursday.

"Abramson will join Harvard University as a Visiting Lecturer for the 2014-2015 academic year," the press release stated. "The 1976 Harvard College graduate will teach undergraduate courses on narrative nonfiction for Harvard’s Department of English in the fall and spring semesters." 

In a statement, Abramson said she was "honored and excited to be teaching at Harvard in the coming academic year."

“Narrative nonfiction journalism is more important than ever. Its traditions and how it is changing in the digital transition are fascinating areas of study," she said.

The job will be Abramson's first since she was abruptly fired from the Times in May after a period of discord with the paper's publisher, Arthur Sulzberger. Sulzberger attributed Abramson's firing to internal complaints about her management style, and said he "concluded that she had lost the support of her masthead colleagues and could not win it back.” Abramson has yet to comment publicly on the matter.

During a May commencement address at Wake Forest, her first and only public appearance since her termination, Abramson said she did not know what her next career move would be after the Times.
