Former Democratic New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind was removed from a Muslims for Peace event on Sunday, after he dared to ask keynote speaker Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), "What about your anti-Semitism? What about your blood libel?"

What are the details?

Mr. Hikind, a pro-Israel activist, posted video online showing him being interrupted and escorted out by police at Rutgers University when he attempted to ask Congresswoman Tlaib questions as she stood at the podium.n the clip, Hikind can be heard asking Tlaib, "What about your..." before he's interrupted and grabbed by a man wearing civilian clothes. "What about your anti-Semitism?" Hikind then shouts at Tlaib, "What about your blood libel?"
Tlaib appears to be attempting to calm the crowd by saying, "It's OK, no, no, no," and then she can be heard asking, "Can I answer the question?"
Police officers then gathered around Hikind and escorted him from the event — titled, "A Global Crisis: Refugees, Migrants, and Asylum Seekers - Lessons from the Prophet Muhammad" — as audience members chanted, "Rashida! Rashida!"

What's the background?

Hikind told Fox News that the event was not bad. He said he sat in the audience for almost three hours and "loved what they were saying," but when Tlaib came up to speak he confronted her over spreading the false claim last month that Israeli Jews had killed a Palestinian little boy. Qais Abu Ramila, 8, went missing in January. A Palestinian official retweeted an unsubstantiated claim that the boy had been kidnapped and murdered by Jews, and Tlaib, in turn, retweeted the message. Qais' death was later ruled an accidental drowning.
The Palestinian official, Hanan Ashrawi, later apologized "for retweeting something that's not fully verified," but Tlaib did not offer an apology herself.
"She point-blank accused Jews of killing a child," Hikind told The Washington Examiner. "I went to confront her. This is as fundamental as anything, this is not disagreeing with her on some policy matter like abortion or something, this is blood libel. When you say something like this, and it spreads all over the world."
"The Muslim community looks up to her, " Hikind continued. "When she says something like that, it's incredibly damaging. She owes the Jewish people an apology, period."
Rep. Tlaib's office refused to comment on the matter to The Examiner.

The House Ethics Committee revealed Thursday that it is investigating Rep. Alcee Hastings (D-Fla.) over whether his relationship with a member of his staff breaks House rules.

Hastings has admitted to being in a relationship with his aide, Patricia Williams, who serves as his deputy district director.

The committee is now investigating whether Hastings violated House rules with that relationship and if he received any improper gifts from Williams.

The House last year adopted a rule preventing members of Congress from having a sexual relationship with a member of their staff. 

"The Committee is aware of public allegations arising out of Representative Alcee Hastings’ personal relationship with an individual employed in his congressional office," House Ethics Committee Chairman Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) and the panel's ranking Republican, Rep. Kenny Marchant (Texas), said in a joint statement, without identifying the staffer.

The statement said that the committee had begun an investigation on May 14, but did not reveal it publicly until Thursday.

Hastings has dismissed ethical concerns about his relationship, telling The Palm Beach Post "it’s been looking like that for 25 years” according to a story published last month.

Williams previously served as counsel to Hastings when he was accused of accepting bribes as a federal judge in the 1980s. Hastings was later impeached.

Hastings's office didn't immediately return a request for comment.

 

Hastings is the third lawmaker this year to be accused of running afoul of the House rule barring sexual relationships with congressional aides or with staffers on the committees they serve on.

 

That rule was adopted last year in response to the "Me Too" movement.

 

Former Rep. Katie Hill (D-Calif.) last month faced accusations that she had a sexual relationship with a member of her staff, though she has denied that. She admitted to a relationship with a campaign staffer, which would not break the House rule. She resigned last month. 

 

The House Ethics Committee has also announced that it is investigatingwhether Guam's delegate in Congress, Michael San Nicolas, engaged in a sexual relationship with his staffer and whether he improperly used campaign funds for personal use.

 

Hastings has drawn the scrutiny of the Ethics Committee before. 

 

A congressional staffer who worked for the U.S. Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe filed a complaint against Hastings, who served as the commission's chairman, alleging that he made unwanted sexual advances.

The House Ethics Committee reviewed the matter, but ultimately cleared Hastings in 2014 after finding insufficient evidence. However, the committee did find that Hastings admitted to making lewd comments in front of the complainant that showed "poor judgment."

Homan shot down criticism from Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) against the Trump administration for re-ordering funds to pay for his much promised border wall.
"I'd like to remind you, under the Obama administration we did that most of the years he was president," Homan told Jayapal, who was presiding over the hearing of the House Judiciary Immigration and Citizenship Subcommittee.
"We moved money around at DHS, it's called re-programming. We did that under the Obama administration," he explained. "I don't remember any hearings on that."
Homan went on to point out that cages for detainees were built under former President Barack Obama, but most of the criticism only came later and was aimed at the Trump administration.
"Congress was quick to give us all the money we needed to build the tent facilities," he said.Jayapal tried to respond that she objected to policies by Obama, but Homan interrupted her rebuttal.
"Well, be honest to the American people! You can't point out faults in the Trump administration when it happened under the Obama administration!" Homan exclaimed.
Jayapal pounded her gavel numerous times.
"That's dishonesty. It's pathetic and it's sad!" Homan concluded.
"Look, you want to know why there's 50,000 people in detention? You want to know why we have one million illegal entries into the United States? You want to know why we have these issues?" Homan asked rhetorically.
"Because you have failed to secure the border," he said.
"You guys have failed to work with this president," Homan continued, "to close the three loopholes we've asked for two years to close so if you want to know why this issue exists, you need to look in the mirror."
Jayapal again attempted to shut him down by banging her gavel.
"You have failed the American people by not securing the border and closing loopholes," Homan continued.
Jayapal slammed the gavel down angrily and Homan responded, "this is a circus. This is a circus."
Homan then interrupted Jayapal as she tried to explain why another witness had their time added while Homan was not given the same indulgence.
"You work for me! I'm a taxpayer!" he exclaimed.

The House of Representatives voted Tuesday by an overwhelming margin to pass a resolution condemning the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel and to endorse a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The non-binding resolution passed 398-17. Resolution sponsor Rep. Brad Schneider, a Democrat from Illinois, told JTA that the measure’s resounding success shows that support for Israel is a bipartisan phenomenon.

While the resolution also made clear that Americans had the right to petition the government in support or opposition to a particular foreign policy, some Democrats argued that the resolution, which has no force in law, impinged on the First Amendment.

“I stand before you as the daughter of Palestinian immigrants, parents who experienced being stripped of their human rights, the right to freedom of travel, equal treatment,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan said on the House floor. “So I can’t stand by and watch this attack on our freedom of speech and the right to boycott the racist policies of the government and the state of Israel.”

Tlaib, the first Palestinian-American woman elected to Congress, was one of the 17 to cast a “nay” vote. She was joined by two other members of “The Squad,” Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York (the Squad’s fourth member, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, voted in favor of the resolution).

Some other notable opponents to the resolution included Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, the co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and libertarian Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, the lone Republican to vote against the measure.

Two of the three Democratic members of Congress still running for president, Seth Moulton of Massachusetts and Tim Ryan of Ohio, were absent for the vote (the third, Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, voted “yea”). Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi also did not participate, although it has historically been common for House Speakers of both parties not to vote on every bill or resolution.

A resident of the Bedouin city of Rahat has been indicted in a Beersheba District Court on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack against an Ashdod hotel, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced on Sunday.

The Shin Bet, in cooperation with the Israel Police, arrested 20-year-old Adel Abu Hadayeb from Rahat in June, after he purchased materials to make a homemade explosive. Hadayeb, a Hamas supporter, was arrested with five hand grenades and a Carlo sub-machine gun.

According to the investigation, Hadayeb began to support Hamas after he was exposed to the Gazan group’s propaganda on the Internet, and that he had tried to prepare a bomb in order to carry out an attack against a hotel in Ashdod that he had known from his work as a gardener nearby.

The Shin Bet also accused Hadayeb of trying to prepare a rocket, and that he had purchased materials for this purpose.

“The Shin Bet views with severity the involvement of Israeli civilians in terrorist activity, some of whom are influenced by Hamas propaganda disseminated on social networks and through Palestinian media,” the internal security agency said in a statement.

Hadayeb was indicted for several offenses, including conspiracy to commit a crime (arms trafficking), weapons offenses (arms transfers), weapons offenses (arms possession), weapons offenses (weapons procurement) and weapons offenses (firearms). He was also indicted for attempting to make a bomb, an attempt to carry out an attack against a sensitive facility for terrorist purposes, and disruption of legal proceedings.

He was ordered by the court to be detained until the end of the legal proceedings against him.

Charity run by wife of Elijah Cummings incurs new ethics complaint

A watchdog group is asking the Maryland attorney general to investigate whether Rep. Elijah Cummings and his wife used a charity for improper self-enrichment, according to a copy of the complaint obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, which leans conservative, filed the complaint on Monday against the Center for Global Policy Solutions, a nonprofit organization founded by Cummings’ wife, Maya Rockeymoore.

The complaint asked Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh to investigate the financial relationship between the Center for Global Policy Solutions and Rockeymoore’s for-profit consulting firm, Global Policy Solutions LLC.

The similarly named entities shared an address, phone number, projects, funding sources, and had a cost-sharing arrangement that raises questions about a “potentially improper financial benefit to Ms. Maya Rockeymoore Cummings and her husband, Representative Elijah Cummings,” the complaint asserts.

“This is a unique situation that warrants necessary oversight to maintain public confidence in nonprofit donations,” said FACT’s executive director Kendra Arnold in a letter to Frosh.

Rockeymoore’s foundation came under scrutiny earlier this year after the Washington Examinerreported that the foundation had accepted millions of dollars from corporations and special interest groups with business before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, a committee led by Cummings, a Maryland congressman.

Rockeymoore’s nonprofit group received over $6.2 million in grants between 2013 and 2016 from special interest groups and corporations. Several of the nonprofit group’s financial backers, which included Google, J.P. Morgan, and Prudential, have business interests before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Cummings has served as Democratic chairman of the committee since January and previously served as ranking member.

The National Legal and Policy Center, a government watchdog group that has been investigating Rockeymoore’s foundation and for-profit consulting company, filed a complaint with the IRS in May detailing evidence of potential self-dealing at the charity. According to the complaint, Global Policy Solutions and the Center for Global Policy Solutions appeared to have overlapping operations, and the arrangement may have been used to derive “illegal private benefit.” The complaint asked the IRS to investigate the “shared leadership,” “integrated operations,” and “shared address and physical facilities” of her two companies.

Rockeymoore’s charity also paid over $250,000 in management fees to her for-profit consulting firm between 2013 and 2015, according to audited financial reports for the foundation publishedby the Daily Caller last month. IRS law prohibits insiders at nonprofit groups from self-dealing, or using foundation money for their own personal financial benefit.

Rockeymoore did not respond to a request for comment on the complaint. Cummings previously dismissed criticism of his wife’s business dealings as “a fabricated distraction from the important work being done on behalf of Americans, such as lowering the skyrocketing prices of prescription drugs.”

So far the media has managed to avert its eyes and studiously ignore a major story of corruption and malfeasance in Congress because to cover said story would totally destroy a narrative and expose them to allegations that they are racist.

At the epicenter of this tale is the pustulent and rather dim Elijah Cummings from my current state of residence. Cummings is your typical product of the Maryland Democrat machine. The reek of corruption is always near him but never quite attaches to him because he is, as I said, the product of the Maryland Democrat machine and therefore bulletproof. Now all of that may be getting ready to change.

In late May, the National Legal and Policy Center filed an IRS complaint against Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, who is the wife of Elijah Cummings.

The Complaint describes a score of apparent Internal Revenue Code violations, including prohibited private benefit and inurement of the Cummings. CGPS has received millions in grants from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and, in late 2017, was granted a million-dollar contract from the General Services Administration. The funds were purportedly provided to fight childhood obesity. The Complaint asks the IRS to investigate whether “its organizers are getting fat off the grants.”

At the same time she heads CGPS, Mrs. Cummings heads a for-profit consulting firm called Global Policy Solutions, LLC, whose operations appear to have been indistinguishable from those of CGPS. The two entities have shared office space, telephones, etc., all of which are flagrant violations of the Internal Revenue Code.

With a Republican, the Washington Post would have been all over this, in this case, the Post sent out a stenographer to take down the denial:

“It appears a conservative front group and a news outlet . . . are pushing a hit piece filled with faulty research, lies and innuendo in an attempt to tarnish my personal reputation, professional work and public service as well as that of my spouse,” Rockeymoore Cummings said in a statement, calling the effort a “distasteful attempt to intimidate my family into silence at such a pivotal moment in our nation’s history.”
She declined to answer follow-up questions about her nonprofit’s work, donors and contracts.

And the Post, doing what it does best when dealing with favored and powerful Democrats, just let it drop.
Earlier this month, the NLPC released more details:

The amended complaint states that Rockeymoore Cummings “appears to have been paid twice for the same services,” noting that she collects a “substantial full-time salary” from her charity on top of the 5% management fee it pays her for-profit venture.

For example, Rockeymoore Cummings earned a salary of $152,155 from her charity in 2015, according to its Form 990 tax return that year. Also in 2015, her charity paid her consulting firm $78,178 in “management fees,” according to its audited financial statements.

Crickets.

Is it even mildly plausible that Cummings didn’t know the grift that his wife was running? Not very likely. Will the IRS get involved? They may end up not having any choice.

The media will ignore this as long as it can. But, if history serves as any guide, neither of these are going to forget something as juicy and useful as this story is. Then the media and Nancy Pelosi will have some tough decisions to make and they will have to make them in an election year.
