Don't Harass the Molester

So I just took a mandatory employee online harassment course at work (not mandatory just for me but for all the employees, in case you were wondering). It actually wasn't that bad. It was long but had some vignettes which were acted out by probably the worst actors in the world (how bad is your career going after all if this is the kind of gig you are getting). Anyway, what I found most interesting there were some "protected classifications" that went beyond sex, race etc. By "protected classification" they basically mean what you can't harass or make fund of somebody about. One of the "protected classifications" is "arrest or conviction record". Which is kind of interesting. Say there is a convicted child molester at work, if you call that person a "dirty child molester", you can be fired. However, they pointed out numerous times during the video, calling someone a computer nerd or making disparaging remarks about techies is completely okay, as they are not protected by any harassment statutes. It's kind of an interesting set of priorities in terms of who they are protecting.
