The founder and CEO of the Tides Foundation wants marketers to pull their ads from the Fox News cable network.

That executive, Drummond Pike, sent letters to 10 of the network's advertisers on Friday urging them to pull their spots.

Tides, a left-leaning public interest group has been a frequent on-air target of ultra-conservative Fox commentator Glenn Beck.

In his letter, Pike recounted the story of a gunman in the San Francisco area who was apprehended in July after a shootout with police and admitted that he had intended to storm the Tides offices and kill staffers there, including Pike. According to Pike's letter, the gunman acknowledged being inspired by Beck.

Pike argued that Beck's rhetoric intentionally provoked violence. "It has become clear that the only way to stop supporting Beck is to stop supporting Fox News," he wrote.

The letter was sent to JP Morgan Chase, Geico, Zurich Financial, Chrysler, Direct Holdings Americas (Time-Life), GlaxoSmithKline, AstraZeneca, Lilly Corporate Center, BP and The Hartford Financial Services Group. It was not immediately clear if any of the recipients would pull their ads.

A Fox News rep did not immediately reply to an e-mail seeking comment.
It's all Soros, the Tides Foundation, Media Matters and the hateful left.
