How long before we need a new bureaucracy to deal with mercury pollution?

Kiss your 100-watt lightbulb goodbye

Of all the CFL's purchased, how many will be properly recycled and how many will simply go into the trash? I bet 90+% will find their way to landfills. The sum of all this Mercury will contaminate groundwater and surrounding land. But, hey people like the Natural Resources Defense Council, who rail against Lead are okay with Mercury. How these people think is a mystery to me.

Inoperative mercury mines fingered as a major source of mercury contamination in California waters

Instead of calling them CFL's we should now call them Mercury bulbs.
