66%: Pay up, deadbeats

The American people have a message to the occupiers who are griping about their student loans: Pay up. A Rasmussen Poll showed that the overwhelming majority of American voters oppose forgiving student loans, 66% to 21%.

Among voters under 30, the opposition is 60% to 22%.

Among Democrats, the opposition is 46% to 27%.

No one is falling for this bunkum.

But the occupiers think they are the 99% who are entitled to jobs because they got a degree and forgiveness on the money they borrowed while in college. Consider this testimonial:

I am scared to graduate because of my $150,000+ in education loans. I will hold my Master of Public Health (degree) but am not hopeful that, in our current economy, I will not find a job. My parents are discussing selling their home (in order) to payoff my debt. This makes me feel horrible. I am lucky but the injustice of our economic situation is reprehensible and needs to be stopped.

I am the 99%.

Thank God we live in a country where people are not foolish enough to write off $1 trillion — $1,000,000,000,000 — debts incurred by the elites who go to college, study whatever the hell they want and then expect to get a six-figure job simply because their grade point average was 3.83.

Asked if it were more important for the government to help those with a college degree or those without, only 16% said help the college grades. 43% said help those with no degree.

From Scott Rasmussen: “One of the loudest demands by the Occupy Wall Street protesters is for forgiveness of the nearly $1 trillion owed to the federal government for student loans, but Americans strongly oppose forgiving that debt. Even as President Obama talks about easing the burden on those with student loans, in fact, Americans are more inclined to think the government should help those who haven’t gone to college instead. Just 21% of American Adults think the federal government should forgive the nearly $1 trillion in loans it made or guaranteed to help students pay for a college education. Sixty-six percent (66%) oppose the forgiveness of all student loans. Thirteen percent (13%) are undecided. Still, there’s a recognition among all Americans that a college diploma, once considered the path to a good job, isn’t worth what it used to be, as many of the protesters have complained. Thirty-eight percent (38%) of adults say it’s still possible for anyone with a college degree who is willing to work to find a job within a reasonable period of time. But slightly more (41%) say that’s no longer true. Twenty percent (20%) aren’t sure. The plurality (43%) of Americans, however, think it is more important for the government to help those who were not able to go to college more than those with a college degree. Only 16% feel helping those with a college degree should be the priority for the government. But there’s a lot of uncertainty, too: 41% aren’t sure which group the government should help more.”
