SANTA CRUZ – The fourth suspect is in jail after he allegedly sold LSD to Luke Smith, 15, who died while on the hallucinogen and marijuana when a Santa Cruz County sheriff’s deputy shot and killed the teenager Nov. 19 near Corralitos.
Nathaniel Trecaso, 28, was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on Sunday afternoon on suspicion of six felonies, two charges of solicitation of a minor for a controlled substance, two charges of manufacturing a controlled substance and two charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale. He also will face two misdemeanor drug charges.
Trecaso is accused of selling the drugs to Luke the night before a deputy shot Luke after a stabbing and chase on foot.
Trecaso had been in a local hospital and the Sheriff’s Office said he was semi-conscious while there. He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. Chris Clark told the Sentinel.
Trecaso is accused of selling the drugs from a high-end lab in apartments at the 1000 block of Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz. Bradley Allen Hodge II, 24, Taylor Filson, 28, and Thomas Negron, 20, also were arrested in connection with the exchange of drugs and the lab used to fabricate them, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They were released after their arraignments in Santa Cruz County Superior Court.
Smith had LSD and marijuana in his system when he died, according to a toxicology report the Sheriff’s Office released Monday afternoon.
“This is a piece of the investigation,” Clark said.
Trecaso was held in lieu of $150,000 bond.
