What makes Detroit, Detroit!
Detroit police are investigating a double stabbing that happened Sunday evening when a fight occurred over an argument about a parking spot.
The incident was recorded by dozens of onlookers who posted their videos to Facebook, and Detroit police are scouring through the online videos which show bystanders laughing and cheering on the altercation.
Sixth Precinct Commander Aric Tosqui told The Detroit News condemned the onlookers for standing around to encourage the interaction. “It’s unfortunate that we as a society find entertainment in these kind of things,” he said.
“In this case, people got hurt while everyone else stood around and filmed it instead of doing something.”
Tosqui said the incident is still under investigation, but one of the victims is not cooperating with authorities. One of the victims reportedly drove away from the scene of the accident and one was transported to the hospital where she was listed in stable condition. “There were several videos posted to Facebook. We’ll be working with Facebook to gather all the videos so we can determine exactly what happened, and who was involved.”
According to the News, the videos do not clearly show the stabbing, but do show the moments leading up to the event, including the women punching one another as the crowd cheered and pulled out their cell phones.
While Tosqui said the incident could have ended even more poorly, he had harsh words for those who stood by filming.
“This could have been a lot worse,” he said. “But it’s unfortunate the way it happened. Social media and YouTube are full of incidents like this, where people decided to film rather than do something.”
