Where’s the leftist outrage? Pakistani Christian woman faces execution for drinking from ‘wrong’ tap
On Tuesday’s episode of “The Glenn Beck Radio Program,” Faithwire writer Will Maulejoined Glenn to discuss the plight of Asia Bibi, a 53-year-old Christian woman who was sentenced to death for charges of “blasphemy” in 2009 after she drank from the same tap as two Muslim women in Pakistan.
Bibi, a farm laborer and mother of two, spent nearly a decade on death row after she angered her Muslim neighbors by taking a sip of water from the “wrong” tap. The neighbors claimed later that Bibi had committed blasphemy by insulting the prophet Mohammed.
Though Bibi was acquitted for the alleged blasphemy charges on Oct. 31, her life still hangs in the balance. Violent protests from Islamist radicals have erupted across Pakistan, leading Prime Minister Imran Khan to cave in to the demands of terror-affiliated extremist religious protesters by refusing Bibi and her family the authority to leave the county, which is effectually a second death-sentence.
In a country where more than 60 people have been killed by radical mobs after being accused of blasphemy, Bibi and her family are in grave danger. They have made several pleas for asylum in the U.K., U.S., Canada, and other nations. So far, Britain has declined to grant asylum.
“It’s just outrageous that in this time, when we are rehashing the past, that we have an actual … Muslims-only water fountain dispute, and blasphemy, and nobody on the left seems to even care,” Glenn noted.
Maule explained that the U.K. had refused to grant Bibi and her family asylum because, in essence, the government is afraid of potential uprisings and protests from Islamic extremists within the country.
