Peru soldiers blow up drug smugglers' jungle airstrips

13 September 2014
Peruvian security forces have destroyed more than 30 makeshift airstrips in the Amazon this week as part of a renewed campaign to stop cocaine smuggling.
Between 150 and 180 tonnes of cocaine were moved out of Peru by small aircraft last year, according to an estimate by Washington.
Peru is considered to be the world's top producer of cocaine and coca by the United States and the United Nations.
