The Nanny State

There is increasingly no part of our lives, even minor pleasures that government doesn't feel the need to control, because, of course, they know what's best for us.

FDA restrictions keeping some great cheeses out of stores

This on top of an article of a Nebraska judge disallowing the exemption for cigar bars from public smoking rules on the grounds it was unconstitutional due to second hand smoke considerations. (It's not clear what part of the Nebraska or US Constitution they thought it violated to have people voluntarily go to cigar bars/clubs, letting people who did not want to inhale second hand cigar smoke to just not go. (As an aside cigar bars I've been in in NY in the past had extremely good ventilation systems that sucked all the smoke out as soon as it was released, cigar smokers not wanting to sit in smoke-filled rooms any more than anyone else so the air inside was generally cleaner than walking down a busy street.
