Would-be robber messes with the wrong gun-toting Uber driver...and a good shot.
One Florida Uber driver fatally shot a would-be robber who tried to ambush him near a high-end South Florida mall, the Aventura Police Department said Sunday.
Chris Goranitis, spokesman for the APD, told local media outlets that the driver had picked up a passenger around 5:30 a.m. Sunday when a robber, who was driving a minivan, cut him off near the Aventura Mall, which is situated between Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
At that point, the Uber driver told authorities that the robber came toward him, pointing two handguns in his direction.
But Goranitis said the Uber driver wasted no time. He pulled his own firearm and shot off two rounds, leaving the robber dead. Two other alleged accomplices in the minivan immediately sped away after the shots rang out. Police are still searching for them.
The Uber operator had a concealed carry permit, Goranitis said. Neither he nor the passengers in his car sustained any injuries.
