The loophole with the violent mentally ill laws

Subway slugger hospitalized after having violent outburst

The mentally ill teen charged with fatally punching a 65-year-old grandfather in the subway has been hospitalized after having a violent outburst at Brooklyn Criminal Court on Thursday night, according to multiple law enforcement sources.
Edward Cordero, 18, remained at Woodhull Hospital Friday night, the sources said.
The high school senior’s outburst happened some time after he was perp-walked out of Brooklyn’s 84th Precinct and was taken to the courthouse.
“Mind your f—ing business!” he growled at reporters before reaching court.
Cordero was still in police custody at the courthouse — and was docketed for arraignment on charges of reckless and intentional manslaughter — when he was instead hauled off to the hospital, sources said.
The elderly man had been waiting on the southbound platform of the Jay Street-MetroTech station in downtown Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon when Cordero allegedly confronted him.
The teen began flailing his arms and shouting at Suarez about God and the devil, sources said.
In response, Suarez took out a pen, holding it out as a warning to Cordero to keep away, sources said.
Cordero did back off — only to sucker punch the elderly man from behind soon afterward, sending him hurtling onto the tracks.
Suarez was not struck by a train, but died soon after at Brooklyn Hospital from the trauma of his fall, sources said.
Among his injuries were a broken spine, broken ribs and skull fractures.
Cordero has suffered from mental illness and taken anti-psychotic drugs for years, and has been repeatedly treated at Bellevue Hospital, family members and police sources have told The Post.
