Ebola and its proponents

Police officer killed, several injured in attack on Ebola treatment center

A police officer was killed and several health workers injured in an attack on an Ebola treatment center in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday, authorities said—the second such assault in the last two weeks.
The World Health Organization, Doctors Without Borders and other groups have struggled to contain the outbreak in a region on the brink of civil war, where dozens of armed groups are active.
The two treatment-center attacks occurred in the epicenter of the outbreak, where more than 86 percent of new cases have been diagnosed over the past three weeks, officials said.
More than 850 Ebola cases have been confirmed since Aug. 1, including 578 deaths.
The outbreak is second in scope only to the one that killed more than 11,300 people in West Africa from 2014 to 2016.
