Woke LA District Attorney George Gascon backtracks and admits County Sheriff DIDN'T agree to charges against driver, 17, who mowed down mom and baby - after the teen was sentenced to just five months in a juvenile probation camp

• Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon has walked back claims that his department consulted with LA County Sheriff's Department on teen's sentence
• Alex Villanueva, 59, called out DA Gascon, 68, for 'claiming that the Sheriff's Department was ok with the lightweight sentencing'
• Villanueva said the  LA County Sheriff' was 'never consulted as we were not the investigating agency' and would 'never' approved such a 'lightweight sentence' 
• DA office wrote: 'Need to correct our statement from yesterday. LASD was not involved in decision on felony charge, as they were not the investigating agency' 
• The 17-year-old criminal, who is only known as KB, was sentenced to five to seven months in a juvenile probation camp for the hit and run 
• Prosecutors have criticized LA's probation camps, calling them 'less than a military school and a little bit tougher than a summer camp' 
• Either way, Gascon defended the decision, saying the teen's sentence was 'an appropriate resolution' 
• The victim, who has only been identified as Rachel, slammed the DA as well, claiming he 'doesn't value my life or the life of my child, or any other victim'
