Obama: If they don't, if they vote against, then they're going to be voting against health care reform and they're going to be voting in favor of the status quo. So Washington gets very concerned about these procedural issues in Congress. This is always an issue that's — whether Republicans are in charge or Democrats in charge — when Republicans are in charge, Democrats constantly complain that the majority was not giving them an opportunity, et cetera. No, they aren't voting for the status quo. The GOP has come forward with their own reform package as the system is clearly broken. According to the Democrats, it's those evil corporations while according to the GOP it's a lack of a free market in healthcare. Those are two very different theories and have very different solutions attached. So a no vote doesn't mean we like the system, just that 2,700 pages of nonsense (as liberal democrat Warren Buffet called the healthcare bill) will not make the system any better and will likely make it much worse. What the American people care about is the fact that their premiums are going up 25, 40, 60 percent, and I'm going to do something about it.
On the premiums issue, it's pretty clear for anyone with any knowledge of economics knows that premiums will only increase under this proposal. Think about it, insurance companies are currently not terribly profitable as it is, and that is with pre-existing condition exclusions. If you allow people to buy just-in-time insurance policies at will and forbid insurance companies to say no, premiums will HAVE to increase to pay for those just-in-time policies. Obama must have failed economics in college, though we won't ever find out since he won't allow the school to release his transcipt.
