A two-vehicle collision in downtown Novato sent a woman and her infant crashing into an unoccupied restaurant Tuesday, police said. No serious injuries were reported.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on De Long Avenue, where one vehicle failed to yield to another at Machin Avenue, said Novato police Sgt. Oliver Collins.

The impact sent one car over the curb and into the vacant building at 880 De Long Ave., a former Starbucks slated for conversion to a Chipotle restaurant. About half the car lodged inside the brick structure.

Neither occupant of that car — a 25-year-old Novato woman and her 3-month-old child — required medical treatment, nor did the 27-year-old San Rafael woman driving the other car.

Collins said neither driver had a valid license. The San Rafael woman was also uninsured, and the preliminary investigation puts her at fault for the collision, he said.

De Long Avenue was closed for 15 to 20 minutes in the aftermath, causing traffic delays, said Novato fire Battalion Chief Mark Heine.
