The man who shot at George Zimmerman, Matt Apperson, was arrested at approximately 6:40pm.   Charges:

…”Mr. Apperson did intentionally fire into the vehicle, occupied by George Zimmerman, without provocation”…

• One count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
• One count of aggravated battery with deadly weapon.
• One count of firing deadly missile into an occupied vehicle.

The redacted text in full says:

“During the investigation, I learned that Apperson has exhibited unusual behaviors in which he had recently been admitted to a mental institution. It appears that Apperson has a fixation on Zimmerman and has displayed some signs of paranoia, anxiety, and bipolar disorder.”

ORLANDO – The man accused of firing a gun at George Zimmerman was arrested Friday evening.  Lake Mary police arrested Matthew Apperson on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

He was also charged with one count of firing a deadly missile into an occupied conveyance.

Apperson turned himself in to police Friday and was later transported to the Seminole County jail, reports said.

The suspect’s lawyer, Mark NeJame, released a statement which read, “The case will proceed through the criminal justice system appropriately and ultimately a determination will be made as what truly happened. Mr. Apperson will continue not to comment until such time as it may be deemed appropriate.”

[…] According to the police report, two handguns – a .40-caliber Glock and a .357 revolver – were recovered from Apperson’s vehicle.

An expended .357 shell was also found in the vehicle.

Zimmerman’s attorney, Don West, said Tuesday that the former neighborhood watch volunteer had moved several weeks ago and was settling in to his new home.

Zimmerman came back to the area this week for Mother’s Day and was driving to a doctor’s appointment when he became involved in the shooting with Apperson, authorities said. (read more)
