Trump slams ‘sneaky’ Feinstein for releasing dossier testimony
President Trump on Wednesday blasted “sneaky” Sen. Dianne Feinstein for releasing a Fusion GPS founder’s testimony to a Senate panel, saying she did so in an “underhanded and possibly illegal way.”
“The fact that Sneaky Dianne Feinstein, who has on numerous occasions stated that collusion between Trump/Russia has not been found, would release testimony in such an underhanded and possibly illegal way, totally without authorization, is a disgrace. Must have tough Primary!,” he wrote on Twitter.
Feinstein, a Democrat from California, on Tuesday released 312 pages of Glenn Simpson’s testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee during a closed-door hearing in August 2017.
Fusion GPS contracted former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele to compile a dossier on Trump’s connections to Russia after being paid by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee in April 2016.
The allegations in the dossier are unverified and have come under scrutiny by Republicans.
Feinstein said she released the transcripts “to set the record straight.”
Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), the chair of the panel, said her decision was “confounding.”
”Her action undermines the integrity of the committee’s oversight work and jeopardizes its ability to secure candid voluntary testimony relating to the independent recollections of future witnesses,” Grassley spokesman Taylor Foy said Tuesday.
