Stars to boycott Trump Toronto Hotel during film festival

Donald Trump has been a polarizing figure in liberal Hollywood during his presidential run — and sources headed to the Toronto International Film Festival tell Page Six that some stars may boycott his branded Trump Toronto Hotel, which was buzzing with starry activity just a year ago.
“No one’s staying at the Trump” this year, sniffed one showbiz vet. “People are not going back. Talent does not want to stay there. It’s like the Beverly Hills Hotel.”
Last year, Benedict CumberbatchKeira KnightleyDenzel WashingtonTobey Maguire and many more were at endless junkets at the then-2-year-old Trump hot spot. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and The Wrap hosted events. The Weinstein Co. and Universal’s Focus Features had p.r. offices there, but neither is returning.
A Weinstein rep told us of its move: “It was simply based on convenience and logistics” rather than “anything to do with Mr. Trump’s politics.” Harvey Weinstein has joked to the Hollywood Reporter that his liberal mom is a Trump fan, and “[Brother] Bob and I are in court trying to abrogate being [our] mother’s sons.” A source said Focus’ move is also logistical, while some companies, like the über-hip A24 Films, are returning.
Salma Hayek last year was at a private lunch at Trump Toronto after promoting animated film “The Prophet.” She’s since said of Trump’s stance on Mexican immigration: “Everybody’s entitled to be dumb.” Other critics include Eva LongoriaMarc AnthonyNeil Young and Aaron Paul.
Then again, “No Escape” star Owen Wilson said of Trump: “You can’t help but get a kick out of him . . . We’re so used to politicians on both sides sounding like actors at press junkets . . . Here’s somebody who’s not following that script.” Trump’s also been praised by Mark CubanGene Simmons and Charlie Sheen.
A hotel rep wouldn’t say who will be there due to “guest confidentiality.” A source said, “Trump Toronto is looking forward to another busy and productive week. The hotel will play host to numerous high-profile events. It is always an honor to be an active part of the culture of Toronto.”
