A Houston, Texas, television reporter was fired after she expressed her excitement over President-elect Donald Trump’s win in the general election and the end of President Barack Obama’s reign.
Scarlett Fakhar, a reporter for KRIV-TV, wrote on her personal Facebook page following the election, “I prayed for the best leader that will turn this country that has become more violent and racist under the Obama administration than ever…into the America I once knew.”
“I work in news and I hate to say it…but the number of African Americans killing one another far outweighs the number of them being killed by whites,” she continued.
Fakhar detailed in a lengthy Facebook post why she was so relieved that Trump won the presidency.  The post was set to public and had no privacy restrictions.

The post has since been removed from her personal page and replaced with an apology that reads, “It was wholly inappropriate, as a journalist, to do that.”

Shortly after the controversial post, Fakhar announced to her fans on her professional Facebook page that she was fired for expressing her political views on her personal page.  Fox confirmed to the Houston Chronicle that Fakhar had been fired, and a spokeswoman for the station told the newspaper that they had no comment on her original Facebook post. A few hours after her announcement, Fakhar added that the station was attempting to remove her professional page from Facebook.  The posts can be seen below:

Unhappy about the Chronicle’s coverage of her story, Fakhar chided the newspaper for saying she “chastised African Americans” and clarified her original statement.  “The media has made this a RACE issue when in reality the matter boils down to a difference in political philosophy.”
“I simply stated the fact that the media continues to misrepresent the factual realities that there is NO more white on black crime than there is black on black crime,” she said.
