When Adrian Perry was watching the news last Tuesday and saw her son, Derriontay Perry, in a surveillance video robbing a couple, she knew she had to act.
So that’s exactly what she did.

What happened?

According to WHBQ-TV, Adrian said she had no choice but to turn her son into police after recognizing him in the surveillance footage.
“I love him. That’s what you call tough love. Something a lot of more parents needs to start doing,” Adrian told WHBQ.
Police say Adrian’s son is responsible for robbing three people, two of whom were visiting Memphis from Florida. But the robbery went awry when one of the victims pulled a gun of her own. She fired a warning shot at Derriontay and he returned fire with two shots.
“Two shots? See that’s what I’m saying. I do not even know where he got a gun,” Adrian said, adding that she’s thankful the woman who fired a warning shot didn’t immediately kill her son.
That’s when Adrian turned to the camera and apologized for her son’s actions.
“I am sorry that your visit to Memphis, Tennessee, had to be like that because of MY disobedient, disrespectful child,” she said.

Derriontay is being held in jail on $100,000 bond. He is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.
