Afghanistan as Iraq
So, now Bush's surge was a good idea? Iraq is the model for Afghanistan? The Afghanistan war is in the national interest until 2011 when it becomes what? Obama's enthusiasm for the surge must surely improve the morale among the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Will in 2011 Obama pull our troops out and say "well I tried"?
Refresh my memory, didn't the Democrats hate Bush's surge plan? Wasn't Afghanistan the "good war". Didn't Harry Reid call the surge lost after six weeks? Didn't the Democrats call for a timeline for Iraq and now Murtha and friends are against a timeline. I'm against a timeline. You leave when you win.
An aside. Remember the howling when the German commander in Afghanistan called for an air strike on two hijacked tanker trucks. The German Defense Minister resigned a few days ago. While watching DW TV last night they referenced this issue and I learned a couple of facts I didn't know. The air strike killed 69 Taliban and 39 so-called civilians. Do you think the civilians didn't know they were hanging around the Taliban? How does anyone know they were Taliban supporters? Doesn't killing their supporters erode people's willingness to aid the Taliban. Is there any doubt that if those trucks were not destroyed the would been used either as a weapon or fuel to support Taliban existence?
