Chicago police say they have arrested and charged four people in the politically charged beat down of a man in the middle of a Chicago street earlier this month, while a nearby crowd failed to render aid and chanted “Don’t vote Trump.”
Authorities say 26-year-old Julian Christian, 21-year-old Rajane Lewis, 20-year-old Dejuan Collins and a 17-year-old girl who wasn’t identified were each charged with vehicular hijacking in the Nov. 9 incident. Christian is from Broadview, Illinois, and Lewis and Collins are from Chicago.
Forty-nine-year-old David Wilcox says he was attacked after another car scraped his. He says he was beaten after parking and asking the other driver if he had insurance. Someone drove off with Wilcox’s car during the attack on Chicago’s West Side.
“One of the guys — African-American at the bus stop — said ‘Yeah, that’s one of those white boy Trump supporters.’ And I said ‘What does that have to do with this accident? I just want to exchange insurance.’”
“And then, the next thing I know, the guy said, ‘Don’t worry about it, we’re gonna beat his ass.’”
Wilcox says he voted for President-elect Donald Trump, but says that he never mentioned it to any of the people that beat him.
After he was beaten, someone hijacked his car and dragged Wilcox for nearly a mile as he hung on, according WLS-TV.
Wilcox says he plans to show up for the court date of each suspect. Watch video of the brutal beating here.
