The African/Black Student Alliance claims its mission is “the liberation of all black people.”...through segregation?
Students at the University of California at Santa Cruz have successfully bullied the college’s officials into giving in to their demands after a three-day-long sin-in.
According to KSBW-TV, a group of liberal students belonging to the college’s African/Black Student Alliance entered on Tuesday Kerr Hall, an administrative building, locked all the doors and covered the windows with posters. The group demanded the university give in to four demands.
“If the university fails us, there will be no business as usual,” the group told the school’s student newspaper.
The group demanded four years of student housing for “all students from underrepresented communities” who officially applied to live in on-campus housing at the school’s Rosa Parks House. They also said the university must create a lounge space in the Rosa Parks House and paint the building “the colors of Pan-African liberation,” according to a report by the Santa Cruz Sentinel. The final demand was the university mandate incoming freshman students receive “educational diversity orientation.”
On Friday, UC Santa Cruz announced it would give in to all the students’ demands.
The only television interview the group agreed to participate in was with Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson. During an interview with Carlson earlier this week, one of the students told Carlson, “Having that red, black and green house in the middle of Stevenson College, which is a predominantly white-serving college, is a matter of symbolism and visibility.”
According to KSBW, the African/Black Student Alliance claims to be “a place and space for Afrikan/Black/Caribbean students to learn together, to teach together, to offer support for the various racialized macro-and-microaggressions, and also to challenge each other around some harmful ideologies we may hold toward practicing a fuller love for ALL Black people.”
