Teen reports hate crime, says man pulled off her headscarf, called her ‘terrorist.’ Well, she lied.

A 13-year-old Virginia girl is in hot water with authorities now that they’ve concluded she falsely reported a hate crime against her last week in Woodbridge, the Prince William Times reported.
Prince William County police were called just before 4 p.m. Friday to investigate a reported assault earlier that afternoon, the Times said, adding that the girl told cops she was outside walking when she was confronted by a black man she did not know.
The girl told police the man grabbed her arm, displayed a small knife and called her a “terrorist,” the paper reported.
She also said the man pulled off her headscarf and put his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream, the Times added.
Police were investigating the incident as a hate crime and said they believed the victim was targeted because of her religious attire, the paper said.
But after further investigation…
However, detectives soon determined the girl falsely reported the incident and that no altercation took place, the Times reported.
What will happen to the girl?
Police obtained a petition charging the girl with knowingly filing a false police report, the paper said, adding that the case will be handled through juvenile intake.

- Prosecutors declined to press charges against a hijab-wearing University of Michigan student in February 2017 who police said made up a hate crime she blamed on a white man just three days after Trump was elected president. She claimed the man demanded she remove her hijab — a head scarf often worn by Muslim women — or he’d set her on fire with a lighter.
- A different University of Michigan student pleaded guilty in March 2017 to making a false police report after slicing her own face with a safety pin days after the presidential election. She told police she was the victim of a hate crime perpetrated by a “45-year-old white male” because she was wearing a safety pin in solidarity with immigrants affected by the United Kingdom’s Brexit vote.
- A racist note that prompted the student body of Lutheran St. Olaf College in Minnesota to hold a massive protest that shut down classes for a day in May 2017 was revealed to be hoax, school officials said.
- A reported “hate crime” near Kansas State University last November — in which a black man’s car was covered in racist graffiti and prompted action by the FBI — turned out to be a hoax, as the car’s owner admitted he was responsible for the graffiti.
- Racist messages were discovered in September 2017 against several minority candidates at the Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado Springs, but the incident was revealed to be another hoax.
