‘I’m confused’: Dem. senator proves she knows nothing about immigration during Capitol Hill hearing...Listen and be amazed
Top Immigration and Customs Enforcement official Matthew Albence gave Democratic Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) a lesson on his agency’s policies and family residential centers during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday on Capitol Hill.
Hirono provoked Albence’s ire with a non-sequitur question, asking, “Would you send your child to [the Family Residential Center]?”
Albence responded by clearly exposing the senator’s lack of understanding on the issue of immigration and family detention centers.
Democrats have voiced their displeasure with family separations at the U.S. border but Albence defended ICE’s position.
“Again, I think we’re missing the point,” Albence said. “These individuals are here because they have broken a law. There has to be a process.”
Hirono still didn’t understand the heart of the issue. “They have broken a law only as deemed so by the president,” she replied.
